Statue Petition

Petition for a Pete Sampras Statue

To All Pete Sampras Fans,

Pete Sampras, winner of 14 Grand Slams is a tennis legend who needs to be remembered not only by his tennis fans worldwide, but by all who attend the U.S. Open and all who see the Grand Slam on television. For this reason, we believe that a statue of Pete at the U.S. Open would be a wonderful way of giving recognition to his great tennis.

Please sign our petition to send to the USTA asking them to erect a statue of Pete at the U.S. Open in New York in recognition of his many years of great tennis.

I think Pete Sampras is a living legend, a rare role model and an example of charcter, pride and dignity. A statue in his first Grand Slam would be an ideal way to give him credits for what he's achived.

Pete is not only the greatest American tennis play ever, but probably the best American sportsman of our era. His game, confidence, kindness and wholesome way of living make him a true champion. Give him a HUGH STATUE!!

My wife, Michèle, fell in love with Sampras at the US Open in 1990. The rest is like a symphony of beautiful and masterful tennis that would have me glued to the tv not to miss anything. Thank you Pete for all you brought to the sport. You deserve the highest recognition!

He deserves it. He represents us and his country. He's respected by so many fans and players.

I'm not the biggest tennis fan but I got into the game from watching him, Agassi and today's champs Federer. I can't forget my boy McEnroe.

Just do it, you will please everyone who loves tennis and their country

The year was 1995. In the sweltering heat of Australian summer, Sampras faced a two set deficit to then rival Jim Courier and the news that his long time coach & friend had a terminal illness. Pete broke down and cried for his coach in a rare display of emotion, before reaching up and firing an ace. Through blistered feet and unstoppable tears, Pete came back to take the match, finally winning it an hour past midnight.

That was the moment when fans all over the world learned that Sampras was not merely a brilliant player, but that he was super human.
Arguably the greatest sportsman to ever lift a racket, and without doubt, the greatest American to ever play tennis, Sampras's genius should be celebrated with a statue at Flushing Meadows.

As a mother of 4 boys all who follow tennis Pete Sampras has been a wonderful role model for them! They all idolise Pistol Pete Sampras and we as a family think a statue at Flushing Meadows would be a fitting and lasting tribute for a true gentleman and ambassador of tennis!!!
