Statue Petition

Petition for a Pete Sampras Statue

To All Pete Sampras Fans,

Pete Sampras, winner of 14 Grand Slams is a tennis legend who needs to be remembered not only by his tennis fans worldwide, but by all who attend the U.S. Open and all who see the Grand Slam on television. For this reason, we believe that a statue of Pete at the U.S. Open would be a wonderful way of giving recognition to his great tennis.

Please sign our petition to send to the USTA asking them to erect a statue of Pete at the U.S. Open in New York in recognition of his many years of great tennis.

Pete Sampras is an American Living Legend in a sport that has been dominated by other nations! He is simply the best! A statue of Pete Sampras would be fitting to honor such a great champion, an American Champion and role model for all to see at the U.S. Open in New York for years to come! He is our champion, he is America's Champion to be honored and remembered!

I have always been interested in sports, since high school. But, only until I started following Pete's career, did I become a true fan, of tennis. I continue to watch, but the sport will never be the same, since Pete retired. I think erecting a Statue of Pete is only appropriate, since he has brought so much to the sport.

A statue is a big deal. I would personally support it, however I don't think it will happen without more off the court activity from Sampras. He would need to do more to promote the sport besides winning. I know he does plenty, however look at the folks who have statues around the country, for example Joe Paterno of Penn State, Jerry West of WVU, ect. Look up their contributions to their sport, organizations, ect. Philanthropy is a big deal as well. One might say, if Pete, why not Andre?

I am in support of a statue of Pete at the US Open. I feel he is the greatest player the US has had or will ever have and feel his tennis should be recognised by USTA.

On top of all that he achieved before retiring from the main tour, Sampras has beaten Federer when he's 10 years older than him and 5 years retired. Most of the current crop of players can't do that. How many more reasons do you need - please put up this lasting monument to Pete's greatness at Flushing Meadows!
