Statue Petition

Petition for a Pete Sampras Statue

To All Pete Sampras Fans,

Pete Sampras, winner of 14 Grand Slams is a tennis legend who needs to be remembered not only by his tennis fans worldwide, but by all who attend the U.S. Open and all who see the Grand Slam on television. For this reason, we believe that a statue of Pete at the U.S. Open would be a wonderful way of giving recognition to his great tennis.

Please sign our petition to send to the USTA asking them to erect a statue of Pete at the U.S. Open in New York in recognition of his many years of great tennis.

This man is a gentleman on and off the court,He is more than a role model,he carries himself with class and distiction,A statue of pete would be a fine reminder of how sport, not only tennis should be played,It is the least the world of tennis can do for such a fine athlete and such a fine person.

Pete Sampras exemplifies all that is admirable in a true sportsman. He has accomplished great goals in the tennis world and exemplifies the drive, character, and skill required of a true champion

Pete Sampras is a true Champion. Some day his records will be broken; even the Wimbledon 7. But it is next to impossible that another tennis champion of equal stature will also be blessed by Providence with anything to equal those storybook brackets to his Grand Slam record: the first at the U.S. Open (and as the youngest to date), the last at the U.S. Open again, after being written off even by a defeated opponent in the early rounds. Nor will another ever, EVER, give us such magical moments as his career is strewn with, of which one has to be that miraculous second serve ace which saved him at Flushing Meadows in 1996, and another that glorious effort at Wimbledon 2000. On the latter occasion he wrote another of his many fairytales with his racket, practically winning his title playing on one leg.
If anyone deserves a statue at both Wimbledon and the U.S. Open, it is Pete Sampras.

Fred Perry was the greatest British Wimbledon Champion and there is a famous statue of him at Wimbledon. Pete Sampras is the greatest American tennis player, so there should be a fitting tribute to him and his career at the home of American tennis. A statue would be ideal and I hope USTA will commission this.

No one with such grace, poise and sportsmanship has been as such an ambassador to tennis as Pete Sampras. He's not only a tremendous player, he's also a great role-model. Sampras is the ultimate tennis player and his contributions to the game should be rewarded.and what better way then a statue of him in NY!

I absolutely support the idea of erecting a statue of Pete Sampras at the US Open. Sampras has been a great and quiet ambassadoe for United States tennis over the years. He has been a credit to the game. I definitely want my children and grandchildren to view his statue whenever they visit the US Open in New York.

How could anyone question the place Pete Sampras has in the field of tennis. But not only his playing is laudable, his character and nature is one that should be a model for everyone whether in the sports field or not. Bravo for the idea and we support a statue for Pete whole heartedly.

Pete was a great champion. In my opinion pro tennis hasn't been the same since he retired, especially in the U.S. Granted Federer is a great player, but he doesn't have the competition that Pete had to face. A statue remembering Pete is a great idea.
