Statue Petition

Petition for a Pete Sampras Statue

To All Pete Sampras Fans,

Pete Sampras, winner of 14 Grand Slams is a tennis legend who needs to be remembered not only by his tennis fans worldwide, but by all who attend the U.S. Open and all who see the Grand Slam on television. For this reason, we believe that a statue of Pete at the U.S. Open would be a wonderful way of giving recognition to his great tennis.

Please sign our petition to send to the USTA asking them to erect a statue of Pete at the U.S. Open in New York in recognition of his many years of great tennis.

Pete was an absolute pioneer for a new standard of worldwide tennis class. He did America extremely proud and is strongly arguably America's greatest ever player - given the competitiveness of the era. He dominated a grand slam for seven out of eight years, while he also has won at Flushing Meadows.

Pete Sampras was number one tennis player of the world in the open era, for six consecutive years (a record?). Hold 14 grand slam titles no other American tennis player had ever achieved since his retirement from the game. A great role model for the young and the old alike. Undeniably has the best serve in tennis without the help of new technology rackets. Pete deserve to have a statue in his honor and a court named after him in the U.S.A. We should even keep his ATP serving silhouette logo.

This understated yet formidable athlete has showed the world that you can be the ultimate Gentleman and still be a winner.

He paved the way for others in the game and still is the role model that I am proud my own sons look up to him.

For what he achieved and what he stands for as a human being he so deserves this honour, and now while he is still alive and can enjoy it with his own children and perhaps later on in the future with his grandchildren!

I'd also like to end by thanking him for all those wonderful matches, such a pity no one plays serve & volley anymore he was trully the master at that dying art form and so graceful in his movement around the court!

I don't know anything about tennis. But I do know that my mother-in-law has admired Pete Sampras for many years - since she spent time watching him play Wimbledon during a long spell in hospital. She swears he helped her to get well. And she followed his career ever since, has seen him play live many times and travelled all the way to Newport in the USA for his inauguration into the Tennis Hall of Fame. Someone who inspires this kind of devotion from people who don't know him personally must be pretty special. We need this kind of role model, especially children. For this reason and his outstanding tennis achievements, surely Pete should have a statue at Flushing Meadows, the home of American tennis.
