Statue Petition

Petition for a Pete Sampras Statue

To All Pete Sampras Fans,

Pete Sampras, winner of 14 Grand Slams is a tennis legend who needs to be remembered not only by his tennis fans worldwide, but by all who attend the U.S. Open and all who see the Grand Slam on television. For this reason, we believe that a statue of Pete at the U.S. Open would be a wonderful way of giving recognition to his great tennis.

Please sign our petition to send to the USTA asking them to erect a statue of Pete at the U.S. Open in New York in recognition of his many years of great tennis.

Pete is the greatest player ever. Federer might get more grand slams, but Pete´s humanity makes him so unique.

I have been a fan and a fanatic of Pete's since before he won his first Wimbledon. Not only has he left a tennis legacy second to none, but he is man worth honour and admiration. He has inspired me in my own life in countless ways and still today, in moments of sadness or despair, I think of Pete struggling through difficult times in his life and overcoming it all. For the tennis player, but more for incredible human being that he is, please erect this statue. Show future generations what a true gentleman is.

With all due respect to the tennis greats of the past and present, Pete is simply the best that ever played the game.

He's the greatest tennis player ever (in my opinion). Plus he won 5 times in Flushing(tied most in open era). I'm not sure if others have statues as well but Pete deserves one.

I mean look at what he accomplished, despite all the adversity he faced in his life. If not for injuries in '94, '98 and '99 he could (and likely would) have added to his 5 US Open titles, 6 yrs and 286 weeks @ #1.

With all of his many successes (way too many to list here), especially his domination of Wimbledon, one should not lose sight of the fact that Pete Sampras's Grand Slam career started and ended at the US Open. From 1990 when he beat McEnroe and Lendl on the way to his first ever Grand Slam title to his unlikely and final major victory in 2002, Flushing Meadows is an integral part of Samras's career, and Pete is an integral part of US Open history and lore. A statue at the venue is appropriate and highly desireable.

Pete - Ultimate sportsman deserves a statue in US Open and also the other way round - US Open after offering itself as the first and last (as of now) to one of its proudest champions should again be the first to erect a statue and honour Pete and Tennis.

Sou brasileira, mas tenho grande admiração por Pete Sampras e nada é mais justo do que no seu país e na sua quadra tão vitoriosa, se erga uma estátua em homenagem ao maior tenista americano e mundial de todos os tempos.
